How to become an influencer

My Hustle
My Hustle

The year 2020 has unlocked the social media star in all of us; from the new fitness gurus, the kitchen kings and queens and even the motivational speakers – we all took our talents and showed them off to the world. And that's pretty awesome.

The question 'Should I become an influencer?' has surely also crossed your mind at some stage and we want to help you unlock that potential in you.

Here are some top tips to help you become an influencer:

1.Define your niche

This is about defining your passion of being someone who can't be boxed in. So, if you are into different types of soil, animals, workouts or even make-up, embrace it and just go with it. When you express genuine passion towards anything, your audience will definitely appreciate it more.

2.Find something that makes you unique

This is about the curse of the lifestyle blogger – they are everywhere. Don’t be an ordinary Joe who loves everything from food to make-up, fashion and travel. No, be the best you as an influencer.

3.Decide which channels you will be posting your content to

You have to look closely at your niche and see which social media platform will benefit you the most. This does not mean that you shouldn't be on every platform – it simply means you should know which one you should focus on. Put your energy into what will ensure the most engagement.

4.Create your own social media strategy

  • Do not, I repeat, do not just wing it and think it will fly. Give your vision and passion the respect it deserves by planning out your content to the T. Create a calendar of important events or dates and make a list of the content you want to create for a couple of months. I know, it sounds like admin ... but your audience will appreciate the energy you put in and respond with the same type of energy.
  • Decide how often you are going to post. Be realistic about it so that you do not push yourself too hard and find yourself unable to produce high-quality content.
  • Also decide by when you will post something. Do some research and see when is the best time to engage with your audience.
  • Be consistent.

5.Create awesome content

Make sure you are doing everything to the best of your abilities. Invest in the equipment and skills you need to show off your best self to your audience. Your brand is your baby, so spend quality time and money on it and give it all the attention it deserves to flourish and grow.

6.Promote your stuff

Remember, it’s 20% content creation and 80% promotion. Spend your money on making sure the right people see and experience all your epic content.

7.Collaborate

Find a famous influencer who is willing to team up with you and increase your audience base.

8.Be engaging

Respond to every single comment (even if it is just a like) and follow the people who follow you. This is super important – it may be easy at first but it will get harder as your fan base increases. But do your best.

9.Remember that the data never lies

Find your analytics on your social media apps and analyse what content is working and what isn’t. It could be as simple as just changing the day or time of day you are doing the posting. Work on it and refine it until you have created your unique recipe for success.
