It’s finally 2020, the year for which a ton of crazy things were predicted to happen, like human feet becoming just one big toe, apes becoming chauffeurs, our living in flying houses and having personal helicopters, C, X and Q no longer being part of the alphabet and eating not being necessary anymore! Surprise, surprise … none of this has happened.

So, we would like to welcome you to our newest segment, ‘2020 Vision’! Where we unpack tech, fashion, education and career trends of the now! In this segment, we will discuss four social media trends for 2020 and beyond.

  1. Ephemeral content will always be popular
Ephem … what? This trend talks about things like Snapchat and Instagram stories.  This content is available for a limited amount of time then disappears like your latest crush in a puff of smoke, never to be seen again.

Today people have short attention spans and like to consume content that moves just as fast. This is why the story format is so popular! Like everything else these days, ephemeral content is short, engaging and addictive.

  2. It is all about the niche platform
One word: TikTok. This platform was launched in 2016 and the youth market loved it! It’s fun, interactive and perfect for the youth. Such platforms that tap the interests of the market so well will continue to do well.

  3. Instagram will remove likes
Social media has shown to affect the mental health of the people who use it, both positively and negatively. Instagram plans on tackling this by removing the ‘likes’ function so that double taps cannot determine a person’s worth anymore and consumers just have fun sharing their lives through pictures and videos.

  4. Video content is king
Video is one of the most engaging forms of content out there. If it hasn’t already, video is ready to dominate views and engagement on every social media platform.

If you’re a small business using social media to get your name out there,  it’s time to add video to your content strategy.
